Harpa Wins EU Prize-Mies Award

In February, we announced the five finalists for 2013 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award. After three months the jury has selected Harpa - Reykjavik Concert Hall & Conference Centrein Reykjavik, Iceland, as the winner of the prestigious prize. Designed by Batteríid Architects, Studio Olafur Eliasson, and Henning Larsen Architects, the project is heralded by the European Commission as "a symbol of resilience, dynamism and recovery" in a country hit hard by the economic crisis.

Additionally, the jury awarded an Emerging Architect Special Mention to María Langarita and Víctor Navarro for the Nave de Música Matadero (Red Bull Music Academy) in Madrid, Spain. On June 7, 2013, an award ceremony will be held at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona, what will also be a celebration of the prize's 25th anniversary.
