The two timber residential buildings are located on a southwest facing site directly above the local recreational area around Schübelweiher pond in Küsnacht. The site benefits from a direct connection with nature and a close proximity to Zurich. The project includes four different housing typologies (studio flats, and 3.5 to 5.5 room apartments). A geothermal borehole heat pump system is used to provide the two buildings with their heating requirements. Through the use of good insulation, controlled ventilation, and passive solar heat gain through a largely glazed southern façade the homes only use a minimum of the heating that the heat pump system can provide. A photovoltaic system located on the roofs of the buildings provides part of the electricity requirements needed for the homes.
