Cultural centre "Lapallavacara" in Balaguer

 Back to Projects list
Location
Balaguer, Spain

The Cultural Center “lapallavacara” in Balaguer is a public building that takes part in the regeneration of the historic center. Works as community center that welcomes and encourages partnership initiatives, social, cultural and recreational activities, returning the centrality to the core of the ancient city that was very degraded. Externally it works as a pedestrian passage linking three streets at different height. Inside, an iron staircase splits for all the floors of the building, forcing infinite visuals. The double space of the multipurpose hall connects the ground floor and mezzanine and another double space room unifies the first and second floors. In the top floor the bar opens onto the large terrace which is a public square. Its skylights create a topography that that lights up the interior. This place gives a breathtaking view of the church of Santa Maria and the roofs of Balaguer.
