The Guardian's Jonathan Jones takes viewers on a tour of the ArcelorMittal Orbit tower in East London's Olympic Village. Artist Anish Kapoor and engineer Cecil Balmond won a competition for the viewing platform after the Mayor of London Boris Johnson tapped Lakshmi Mittal to donate steel for the £19.1 million structure. Jones's tour starts at the trumpet-like base, taking an elevator to the glassed-in observation deck and its "all-encompassing views of London," and finally descending via the spiral stairs. The twisted, red-steel building looks confusing at a distance, but the visual tour lends some context and it begins to make sense once "seen" from the inside.
