The announcement from the Noami Milgrom Foundation coincided with the February 7th closure of Levete's MPavilion, which welcomed more than 79,000 visitors during its four-month tenure.

In commissioning Jain for the 2016 MPavilion, Naomi Milgrim said in a statement: "Bijoy Jain is one of the world’s most fascinating architects. His approach to design reflects a deep concern for craft, sustainability and community. Studio Mumbai’s work inspires us all to reconsider the way we design and continues MPavilion’s interest in collaboration and global connectedness."

Jain said upon receiving the commission: "I’m honoured to be commissioned by the Naomi Milgrom Foundation to design the next MPavilion in Melbourne. I want it to be a symbol of the elemental nature of communal structures. Like Naomi, I see MPavilion as a place of engagement: a space to discover the essentials of the world -‐ and of oneself."

If the first two years are any indication, Jain's design should be released in July. His temporary MPavilion is set to be open to the public from 5 October 2016 to 5 February 2017.
