The 6th cycle of the triennial LafargeHolcim Awards launched in June and are open until February 25, 2020. The awards, which recognize projects and "bold ideas that combine sustainable construction solutions with architectural excellence," consist of five regional competitions, with the winners advancing to compete for the Global LafargeHolcim Awards in 2021. The 5th cycle, from 2017/18, awarded the gold, silver, and bronze awards to women-led projects in Mexico City, Niger, and Detroit, respectively.

The determination of the "nine experts in sustainable design and construction" that serve on each regional jury is the next major step in the LafargeHolcim Awards process.
