Xavier Vancells started his professional career in 1997. From 1997 to 2000 received a FI Research Grant at the Architecture Projects Department UPC.  In 2000 established FFPV Arquitectura with Franc Fernandez and Carles Puig, architects and in 2007 founded his own firm XVA, Xavier Vancells Arquitectura . Since 2000, he has been professor at the Architecture Projects Department in the  Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Vallès School of Architecture, where he set up Postindustrial Landscapes in 2008. He is a member of the Research Group ARCHT at the UPC- Barcelona Tech and has been Assistant Professor of Architecture at the Institute of Architecture BIArch 2012, among other academic activities.

The work of Xavier Vancells has been published and exhibited internationally, and has received several awards including Nomination FAD Awards of Architecture 2010, Finalist 5th Biennal of Architecture Vallès 2009, Finalist FAD Awards of Architecture 2007,  First Prize 4th Biennal of Architecture Vallés 2007 Public Architecture Category, First Prize  4th Biennal of Architecture Vallés 2007 Regeneration Category, First Prize 2nd Biennal of Architecture Vallés 2003, Finalist FAD Awards of Architecture 2003. XVA’s work has been exhibited recently in ‘Spain Lab’ at the Spanish Pavilion in the Venice Biennale of Architecture 2012, ‘Architecture Catalane 2004-2009. Portrait d’époque’ in the Cité de l'Architecture & du Patrimoine in Paris 2009 , ‘Deadline Today!’ Wonderland for Architecture in the ArchitekturZentrum in Vienna 2009, and ‘Patent Constructions. New architecture made in Catalonia’ in the Deutsches ArchitekturMuseum in Frankfurt 2007.
