The single family house „Casa MeZe“ is located in Wollerau, in the Kanton of Schwyz and is being built for a married couple. The plot is located on a steep slope and offers spectacular views to Lake Zurich and its surroundings. It includes a small patch of protected forest and a creek to the west which form the border to the neighboring Canton of Zurich.

The plot can be accessed by foot and car only from the cantonal road above to the south. Several requirements meant that only a narrow strip of land was available for the house to be built on, which defined the elongated and terraced character of Casa MeZe.

The house is accessed by an entrance pavilion on street level. This is followed by the two main floors underneath, an additional floor with different uses, and an underground parking garage level which is accessed by a car lift. However, the entire height of the building is hardly noticeable from any viewpoint as the building adapts fully to its landscape. Especially on street level, it strikes a minimal presence with only the entrance volume visible.

The elongated volume of the house allows for a sequential distribution of different living spaces, that blend into each other, but also distinguish themselves as a result of different material and spatial characteristics. Each space offers different views to the surroundings and the central living spaces are strongly connected to their outdoors with generous terraces or balconies. Thus the inside merges with the outside and allows more flexibility in everyday life due to the extended use of space.

The simple yet elegant material concept and the clear volumetric composition of indoor spaces provide the perfect setting for the family’s extensive art collection to stand out. The consistent use of natural materials such as wood and natural stone on all surfaces enriches the house with a soft and warm light. With its atmosphere Casa MeZe invites its inhabitants and their guests to dwell.
