House "B" of the communal centre Segeberg is, in its urban dominance, a distinctive landmark in a prominent position at the edge of the old town of Bad Segeberg. It provides an important landmark for the town.

The bad condition of the facade, as well as the insufficient warmth and noise protection, led to the necessity of the facade renewal, also offering the chance to correct the grave design faults and give the building a new positive charisma.

The communal building is accessed by a 2-story entrance hall.

The long sides are open, letting light into the offices. The superimposed glass skin creates a new, continuous facade level. In the area of the recess, service and cleaning balconies have been arranged, which also provide a sun screen.

The parapets in the protruding areas are encased with a coloured fibreglass screen. This screen is also used as sun screen in the window area, so that when the shades are opened, they form a smooth material-like surface, making the building looking dressed in a red gown.

The protruding glass facade carries the huge lettering, which is affixed to the inside of the glass, using transparent sheeting. The lettering has a high transparency level, so that it only becomes apparent on a second look.

The use of the material "glass" corresponds with the princple "unity in variety", it interlinks the various zones. The building receives a uniform glazed surface - the suroundings and the sky reflect in the facade. The building appears light and relieved of surplous material. The building changes its expression, dependant on position, time of day and weather conditions.

The new emergency staircase is cladded with perforated sheeting, thus taking up the theme "transparency and penetration". The communal centre was commended by the BDA within the BDA Prize Schleswig-Holstein 2003.
