The building contract was for construction of a five-star hotel for the Sheraton Group as well as a convention center for international trade shows and conferences directly along the Baltic coast in the Polish city of Sopot.

The center with a banquet hall, spa, conference rooms, bars and restaurants was designed while also giving consideration to the existing historical architecture of the original spa resort building. It forms the centerpiece of the “Molo,” Europe’s longest pier.

The project posed the challenge of implementing a highly valuable and technically mature as well as economical lighting concept on a limited budget. In close cooperation with the interior architect, the lighting designers worked out a number of varied light solutions. Many lighting elements were custom designed and manufactured for the project.

For example, the different areas were attractively staged using shaded lamps, cove lighting, modern chandeliers and downlights with glare reduction. Finally, in the banquet hall three spherical light objects consisting of hundreds of small polished brass plates give off a radiant light.
