New Soweto Theatre Opens

The new Soweto Theatre has opened in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Johannesburg, South Africa. The building, designed by Afritects after winning a 2008 competition, is marked by three volumes in blue, red, and yellow, each housing a different theatre. The iconic project marks a strong investment in a conflicted area that is nevertheless known for its music and performing arts. This short film by Al Jazeera gives some glimpses of the Soweto Theatre and puts the project in a historical context.  jh
