In the course of modernising the Dresden Palace of Culture, special attention was paid to creating a calm appearance both inside and out. This was achieved with very well hidden and sensibly placed luminaires that blend harmoniously into the architecture. The historical context required sensitivity in the design of the lighting fixtures and coordination with the authorities responsible for the preservation of historical monuments. The square lights consist of a direct component and a backlit light ring. This significant appearance was also transferred to other areas in a modified form. The shelf lighting of the library was an exciting task. The filigree linear light fixturing with asymmetrically directed light was specially developed for this purpose. The core of the building is the concert hall, where downlights were integrated into the ceiling. The recessed installation and the extreme fade-out of the luminaires ensure a calm ceiling appearance. The wooden walls of the hall are uniformly brightened. The stage is lit by specially designed light fittings that blend into the acoustic canopy above.
