In a statement, the Aarhus School of Architecture with the Danish Building & Property Agency chose these three teams from 42 applications:

  • LACATON & VASSAL (France) along with Powerhouse and Kristine Jensens Tegnestue
  • SANAA (Japan) along with B+G Ingenieure and Sasaki and Partners
  • BIG (Denmark) along with Transform, Rambøll and SLA

In addition to the three pre-qualified teams, the School and Agency are holding an open, international competition for three more spots in designing what is billed as "the first ever newly built school of architecture in Denmark." The open competition will begin in the beginning of December.

The six architects/teams will then submit their designs in autumn 2016, with a winner to be selected in spring 2017. Anticipated completion of the new building in the center of Aarhus is 2020.
