The Arc Bicycle – a collaboration between TU Delft, robotics company MX3D, the Amsterdam Institute of Advanced Metropolitan Solutions (AMS), and STV Welding Supplies – is a research project that explores WAAM: Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing, which allows for the printing of larger objects than other types of 3D metal printing. Although the bike looks like a hardened rope mesh, as the video reveals it is built up slowly by the robotic printer and then assembled by hand. A test ride around Delft revealed "a smooth ride" according to the team – and no doubt some turned heads at the sight of the futuristic bike.
