 Back to Projects list
Location
Diverse Orte, 123 National, International, Germany
Year
2006

The 2006 FIFA World Cup FOOTBALL GLOBE combined the image of the globe with the shape of a football. In the course of the three-year tour through the 12 FIFA World Cup Host Cities, visitors to the pavilion could focus emotionally and playfully on soccer culture.

3deluxe designed the interior of the football-shaped pavilion such that it transforms information poetically. An interactive 360° projection was used to capture in real-time the enthusiasm felt for soccer by current exhibition visitors and by people all over the world. By directly involving the public, the 40m collage of moving images, graphics and written articles represented a unique type of exhibition.

Installations offering interactive games enabled players to assume a wide variety of roles from the world of soccer and delivered information on past and future World Cup encounters.

Football Globe Germany – Interactive Light Sculpture
The Football Globe Germany consisted of a dynamically shaped white base that supported an eye-catching, illuminated sphere. Like its predecessor, the Football Globe – 2006 FIFA World Cup™, it was a metaphor for the enthusiasm for this sport that crosses continents and unites people.

Inside the ball made of transparent Plexiglas an installation consisting of 510 cold-cathode tubes were controlled individually by special software. This created a large number of different lighting effects.

The base contained three media terminals which provided visitors with information about the World Cup 2006. The main attraction was the interactive "Corner Flag Dance". Visitors were encouraged to perform their own personal corner-flag dance, which was captured on camera and broadcast on the Internet.
