  • Xpositions: The Pavilion Dialogues
  • This book focuses on one specific project: the China Pavilion for Expo Milano 2015, designed by Studio Link-Arc in collaboration with Tsinghua University.
The book tells the story of this uniquely complex project via a four-part project narrative that explains the concept, design, construction, and opening of the project in a roughly linear fashion. The cleanly written project narrative allows readers a deep understanding of what as a very complex design and construction process, conducted across three continents and in three languages, and at breakneck speed.

Interspersed between the four project sections are a series of interviews with: Studio Link-Arc, Daniel Libeskind, designer of the Vanke Pavilion for Expo Milano 2015; Stefano Boeri, master planner for the Expo; Xiangning Li, Vice Dean at Tongji University College of Architecture and Urban Planning. The interviews are split into four separate topics: Borders, Digital, Time, and Place, using the China Pavilion and the Expo as a launching pad for in-depth discussions of these topics.

By stepping outside of the “monograph” format in an intelligent and considered manner, this publication distinguishes itself by its ability to operate on two levels—it functions as the historical archive for the design and construction of a specific (and unique) work of architecture; but also provides unique and personal insights into larger cultural topics.
