AIANY 2016 President Carol Loewenson (of Mitchell/Giurgola Architects) described Annabelle Selldorf in an announcement: "Fearless in the commissions she pursues, Selldorf has designed extraordinary buildings that range from galleries and libraries to a material recovery facility." Pictured below are the Selldorf Architects' David Zwirner gallery in Manhattan and the Sunset Park Material Recover Facility in Brooklyn, two projects the announcement singles out as indicative of her fearlessness and architectural excellence.

Past recipients of the AIANY Medal of Honor include Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1947), Marcel Breuer (1965), Louis Kahn (1970), Richard Meier (1980), Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects (1996), Weiss/Manfredi (2007), Diller Scofidio + Renfro (2009), and Denise Scott Brown and Robert Venturi (2014).

Selldorf will receive the award at a luncheon on 15 April, when patron and preservationaist Robert M. Rudin will receive the Award of Merit, photographer Iwan Baan will receive the Stephen A. Kliment Oculus Award, and AIANY will celebrate the winners of the 2016 AIANY Design Awards, who will be announced on 29 February.
