WAF "is dedicated to celebrating, sharing and inspiring outstanding architecture" through a three-day program of juried presentations in 35 categories – all with architects vying for Building of the Year and Future Project of the Year. At this early stage – early bird registration ends April 20th – architects need only register, figure out which category to submit their completed buildings or future projects, and then submit the materials. Shortlisted projects will be announced afterwards, most likely late spring or early summer.

Who decides what projects will win each category, and who will decide the Building of the Year, is being fleshed out. WAF has a page listing the 130+ judges for WAF 2018, with four names (so far) filling out the so-called Super Jury for the Building of the Year: David Adjaye, Nathalie de Vries, Mohsen Mostafavi, and Li Xiaodong. Last year's Building of the Year was The Chinese University of Hong Kong's Post-earthquake reconstruction and demonstration project of Guangming Village.
