  Philosophy / Practice

Kjellander + Sjöberg is a Stockholm based practice operating within the fields of architecture and urbanism.

Since the start, K+S main focus has been on the development of new ideas and values – to improve, adapt and invent.

The work of K+S addresses urban, cultural and social aspects of contemporary society.

Our focus is on program; how it relates to context, how it is transformed in the process and how it is translated into a built environment.

“We work with architecture that goes beyond the given, buildings or spaces with expanding possibilities.”

Consequently we explore, bend and manipulate the boundaries of landscape and architecture – between cities, buildings and typologies - to establish a new sustainable relationship.

”To expand the assignment or the plot further, to understand and visualize the bigger context, provides depth, purpose and clarity to our buildings.”

How spaces are used is fundamental to our design process - and to the result.
K+S are dedicated to architecture that allows for interaction, change, accessibility, diversity, improvisation and experience.

”Our projects are about establishing an open set of rules that allows for further development, and to use it as a starting point for design. We work with the specific conditions of each project, to form strong initial concepts. In this sense every project is different and new.”

The office is continuously involved in various teams and collaborations with clients, builders, urban planners, structural engineers and a large number of other specialists. Our emphasis lies on dialogue, workshops and input from all parties throughout the entirety of the design process.

K+S has developed a growing reputation through the completion of a number of projects, ranging from urban planning, landscape integrated design, public and cultural projects, office and residential buildings of various scales.

The office is led by partners Ola Kjellander, Stefan Sjöberg and Mi Inkinen.
The work of K + S has won several awards nationally and has been represented at major exhibitions.
