  Design Philosophy

The research in our office is concentrated around the conceptualization of the notion of "scale" – of particular relevance given the multiple virtual realities we experience today. How should we incorporate into the physically build environment the ever increasing presence of a conceptual and virtual reality? Our aim is to produce a materialization of a concept, a project that can satisfy the mind as well the body.
We try through our work to challenge the preconceive perceptive cultural code, building object from image and context from text. ARX – an architectural and cultural group questioning the possibility of communication transculturally – was founded in 1988 by Frederic Levrat. ARX stand as the expression where ARt and ARchitecture takes different paths and the X expresses the intention to reconcile their intersection.
Frederic Levrat and Zolaykha Sherzad are both professors of architecture at Columbia University and Pratt Institute. The real aim of theory is to theorize, but to realize spaces of high quality, conceptually, visually, physically and materially.
