The seat of the German Embassy in Vienna is an unusual place. Set in the midst of the densely built-up 3rd district, it is framed by an expansive green space. Our design convinced the jury because the “open bel étage weaves together the existing park and the spaces of the embassy, creating a new type: an open building in dialogue with its surroundings and which avoids letting the given safety requirements dominate the expression of the architecture” (jury report).
