A sweeping new look for the former barracks premises

Sweeping and with a 90-degree angle – the new building on the former barracks premises.
Sweeping and with a 90-degree angle – the new building on the former barracks premises.
The great variety of coffee types and flavors of recent years resulted in a downright boom in the construction of coffee machines. Consequently, the coffee machine manufacturer located in Osnabrück, Germany, employs no less than 300 staff members.
During the 20th century, ladies' afternoon socials made do with a coffee pot, filter and filtering paper, but this is no longer the case. Coffee has reached cult status with a multitude of preparations and types. This change in status was to be reflected in the new building located in the commercial district of Osnabrück. The location's vicinity to a harbor and Osnabrück-Münster airport ensures connectivity to major mobility networks.

On the centrally located premises of former British army barracks, the company constructed a mix of administrative building, distribution center, showrooms, lounges, and a small food service. The workshop and logistics hall had already been planned by a local engineering cooperative, and the architect was commissioned to combine them into a comprehensive whole with the other functional areas. The style in which the coffee lovers are received plays a significant role in the design. The formal style of the building was applied consistently, not only on the street façade, but also in all representative interior spaces. The delivery and backyard sides can be described as well-structured, conventional, simple commercial building facades.

Multi-storey individually shaped concrete elements were suspended in front of the three-dimensional sweeping curved façade. The administrative section is given additional depth by the ceiling slabs that are designed differently on every floor projecting at various degrees. Painted snowy white, the façade elements only contrast with the mocha-copper colored windows frames. The exterior look is complemented by a small annex, a discreetly inviting "Coffee Drive Thru" food service pavilion with a terrace. This commercial building with an invitational character sets new standards.
