Offenbach / Germany, 2009 Description
The realisation of KOMM has a key significance for the centre of Offenbach. The complex reintegrates the previously unstructured site back into its urban context and creates a new key object within the cityscape. The shopping and service centre with its integrated parking garage (625 spaces) is directly connected to the pedestrian zone. With a total of seven stories, the building incorporates two retail floors and a parking level below two “floating” levels. Visitors enter the generous elliptical mall via two entrances. The approximately 16,000 m2 of retail space include around 50 shops and restaurants on three light-filled levels. The upper stories of KOMM are suitable for offices, doctors’ surgeries or a fitness centre. The external design using natural stone and glass pays homage to the historical surroundings while creating a bridge with the modern. In order to ensure a sustainable contribution to the quality of life in the city, the energy demands of the building were dramatically reduced via the use of energy piles and natural lighting and ventilation, etc. Client
