The project consists of constructing a new stop on a major Belgian railroad track and two footbridges which will link the different accesses to the platforms, on the Vivier d'Oie site in Uccle. The public spaces created integrate the bicycle paths, the partial reconstruction of the square (Prince de Ligne lane) which includes a chips stand, a bicycle shed, the urban furniture, the lamps and the future terminus of a tramway.
All these are urban elements giving the project its strong image of an intermodal exchange location, a place for mobility, meetings and walks.
In order to carry out these different connections of the platforms with the upper streets Urban Platform has chosen a landscaped and contextual approach.
The staircases, the ramps, and elevators are being fitted into the site, as if they were incisions on the banks planted with trees.
The composition of each footbridge is the result of a system of walls that naturally unfold and develop in the direction of the different connection points. They are the guiding lines accompanying the path of every visitor. Each system of walls, having an identical geometry, follows the same path, but in the opposite direction, creating an effect of opposite perspectives and thus giving a fluent and dynamic aspect to the project. These effects are a reminder of the mobility, linked to this function.
These networks made of walls contain the entire, necessary urban infrastructure.
The walls, the roofs and the furniture are covered by dark metal plates, as a reference to the imaginary world of the railways.
The project helps to reconstruct the surrounding urban fabric whilst deploying the infrastructure project to rethink the relationship between the user and the "urban location".
