The gables of the historic landmark slaughterhouse and the long northern facade have been integrated into the design for re-use of the structure, as a gymnasium. The new volume of the indoor playing field’s hall covers six of the seven existing bays; the seventh functions as a winter garden and main entrance for the public. The landscaping binds the building and exterior playing fields into a whole, integrating the entrance into a common circulation zone.

The area needed for locker rooms and equipment storage etc. are organized along the length of the north and south facades as massive bar constructed of prefabricated architectural concrete, partially surfaced with glass. The hall itself is spanned by an under tied wooden “slab” structure. The facades continue using the same character as large-scale wooden slats with bands of glass.
