East 180th Street Station

The NY, Westchester and Boston Railroad gave its stately headhouse to New York City Transit, and this year NYCT re-opened the station, headhouse, plaza and grounds, creating a gloriously restored gem sandwiched between a freeway and a rail yard. All public areas were rehabilitated with new finishes, skylights, and reconfigured circulation; the lighting was similarly designed to celebrate high volumes; acknowledge newly-admitted natural light; and raise lighting levels to current requirements while becoming more energy-efficient. Amidst NYCT’s standard LF fixtures, GE’s CFL and MH sources were attuned to each application for most appropriate effect, and bettered code compliance by 10%.
