Umweltstation Rothsee
Hilpoltstein / Germany, 2011
Description
Umweltstation Rothsee is the heart of environmental education at Rothsee. The house itself is designed with a plain elliptical shape and a wooden facade. Offerings there are inside the building and also in the  in the outdoor areas: teaching of biological and environmental principles in a playful and pleasurable way - the focus is on life in and around water.

Shown are life cycles and food chains in interdependency of soil, water, wind, temperature, micro-and macro-climate and human influences. The building is designed for experiential learning activities. Over a courtyard-like entrance area with seating areas to relax you enter the large exhibition space. In addition to the permanent exhibition there's space for various events. Directly  attached are storage, equipment room and office, the latter directly behind the information desk. Outside of this unit there are toilets, which can be accessed from the entrance area. There is space for more exhibits and the opportunity for various explorations outdoors. A symbol of Umweltstation Rothsee is a nest-like structure made of superior wood obtained in different sizes, shapes and species.
