Wood Architecture in Vorarlberg

John Hill | 02.04.2013 | Film

This promotional video on Vorarlberg, Austria's westernmost province, attests to the power of contemporary architecture, here being used to entice tourists and, to a lesser degree, businesses to the area. Wood construction, green building methods, and mountains combine to create a distinctive regional modernism born of the region's place and history. Not surprisingly, a number of the buildings shown in the video can be found on Austria-Architects.com. The Badehaus in the lakeside town of Badehaus is one of the buildings highlighted for providing an "unrivaled quality of life" through the use of wood. No wonder Lang + Schwärzler's design won a Vorarlberg Timber Award in 2011.
