Hank will demonstrate that façades can be more than beautiful building envelopes nowadays. His tour begins with a journey into the history of the media façade in which participants will encounter referential examples. Afterwards, selected manufacturers who have the right product responses concerning the topic of the media façade will be visited.

Dr. M. Hank Haeusler, Dipl.-Ing. (Fh) / PhD (SIAL/RMIT)

Hank is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Architecture at the University of NSW, Sydney. Habk is an internationally recognised researcher, educator, entrepreneur and designer in media architecture, digital technology, interaction design and ubiquitous computing. In 2013 he was Visiting Professor at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Previous to his role at UNSW, Hank was a Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellow at UTS, Sydney from 2009-2011. His PhD thesis ‘Spatial Dynamic Media Systems’ (VDM publishers, 2010) at SIAL / RMIT University, Melbourne (Supervisor Professor Mark Burry) received a research prize in recognition of the achievement of excellence in a Higher Degree by Research Program assessed in 2008. He is author of five book publications including: ‘New Media Façade – A Global Survey’ (avedition, 2012); ‘Infostructure – A transport research project’ (Freerange Press 2010); ‘Chromatophoric Architecture – Designing for 3D media facades’ (Jovis, 2010); ‘Media Facades – History, Technology, Content’ (avedition, 2009) and several book chapters, journal and conference papers. Hank is the lead grant investigator of studying the integration of user-responsive digital technologies in Australian public transport environments as a complementary approach to infrastructure expansion. He has lectured in Europe, Asia, and America at various universities (SciArc Los Angeles, ETH Zurich, TU Munich, Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, University of Hong Kong and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Copenhagen). He is current director of the Media Architecture Institute Vienna / Sydney and has curated several summits and exhibitions with the Institute.
