Priyanka Shah Representative Indian-Architects.com ps (at) indian-architects.com Born and raised in the city of Mumbai, Priyanka has studied Architecture and Urban Planning at Rizvi College of Architecture in Mumbai, India and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has worked in India and the United States across a range of architectural scales and technologies including parametric design, digital fabrication, urbanism and environmental planning. She is a registered architect with the Council of Architects in India and a co-curator at PSA Publishers for indian-architects.com. Modern Architecture is, among other things, a story of highly individual design instincts in constant reconciliation with nature, society, technology and people who are not architects. Yet good designs and good designers, despite all their idiosyncrasies, never operate without context. In the present times it is likely that the context in which architecture is situated may not be its physical surroundings, but a non-material context of aspirations, technology and sometimes even nostalgia. While implicitly rooted in place, architecture then enters into a dialogue with the world at large. The world at large then enables identities beyond "place" and binds us into a global community. With greater visibility comes increased accountability, and questions of appropriateness now consider not only the physical site but extend to community, territory and global networks in the practices of world(ly) architects. |
