RBC Design Center

The new RBC design-center in Montpellier required an impressive umbrella which would both reflect the architectural-quality of the building and deliver sun-and rain protection. For this reason the unique double-membrane umbrella Type AV was chosen. Single umbrellas can be arranged as detached objects, or by linking them together, they have the ability to create a closed roof-scape. The umbrella adds functional value by utilizing a sophisticated construction system that incorporates both collapsing mechanisms and integrated drainage system. Of course, these systems are invisible to the user. At night, the chromed mast seems to disappear as it reflects the largely dark background, and by contrast, the double membrane floats as a floation pillow above the ground-plane.
