House on Max-Reinhardt-Platz

 Back to Projects list
Location
Reinhardtstraße/ Schumannstraße, 10117 Berlin, Germany
Year
2013

Some may experience the building on Max-Reinhardt-Platz as a coherent complex with a unifying design; others may perceive the individual construction elements as separate buildings. This is achieved through the individual design of the façade, wherein single building elements represent the variations in the underlying theme shared by the entire structure. By adjusting its height to the adjacent buildings, the scale of the surroundings that have emerged over the years is taken into account. The building houses contain a mixture of commercial and residential elements typical of Berlin. A shopping area on the ground floor enlivens the square, while the corner facing the ‘Deutsches Theater’ has been set aside for a café and terrace. The entrance lobby of the office building opens onto Reinhardtstrasse. A conference area located on the entrance level maintains its public character through its connection to a landscaped inner court. Offices ring the upper floors, and the deeper building sections contain multi-use areas for implementing modern office concepts. Both the office building and the flats have direct access to a shared underground car park.
