Philosophy

Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios was first established in 1978 and with offices in Bath and London we have grown steadily over the years to our present strength of 23 partners and 86 staff.

We have a reputation for sustainable design and innovation and a strong track record in education and community buildings. The practice is at the forefront of innovative housing design, from inner city social housing to new suburban neighbourhoods and private developments, and is working on a series of substantial urban regeneration projects throughout the UK.

We believe the best buildings emerge from a clear concept that then finds its way into the DNA of the details. They also come from a strong working relationship with committed clients and creative consultants who understand the transformational power of architecture. Designing buildings is a process about which we are passionate, leading to a product we hope others will enjoy. It is a way of thinking - a way of life - leading to the creation of form and space that is memorable and inspirational.

Sustainability

Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios is a learning environment, a school of architecture which pursues research-led design. We strive to break new ground with our clients - to be inventive not reactive.

Innovation underpinned by rigorous research and feedback on performance in use has been a long-standing feature of our work. Our research work has been wide-ranging and includes a number of Government funded research projects looking at broad implications of environmental issues, including research visits to Italy, France and Germany funded by the French Government. Our cross-practice Research Group co-ordinates internally commissioned research projects undertaken by all Studios.

Peter Clegg was one of the early pioneers of environmental design and is widely regarded as a leading expert in the field. We work closely with Bill Gething, our Sustainability Consultant and a former partner. Bill is the RIBA President's Special Adviser on Sustainability, represents the RIBA on the Sustainability Alliance, the Architects' Council of Europe Sustainability Task Force and the CIC Sustainability Development Committee, and is a member of the Edge Committee.
