An Introduction to RCR Arquitectes

On March 1st, the world of architecture celebrated RCR Arquitectes when it was announced the studio's founders, Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta, are the 2017 Pritzker Architecture Prize laureates. For many people, though, RCR is a mystery. Jaume Prat, who has collaborated with the Catalan architects, provided us with an introduction to the studio's work.

Accompanying the announcement that Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta of RCR Arquitectes have been selected as the 2017 Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureates are a trio of short films on the studio and some ideas behind their architecture.

Tom Pritzker, Chairman of the Hyatt Foundation, the sponsors of what is considered architecture’s highest honor, has announced that Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta of RCR Arquitectes have been selected as the 2017 Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureates.

At the United Nations yesterday, 2016 Pritzker Prize laureate Alejandro Aravena announced, both during an afternoon press conference and a conversation with six other Pritzker laureates later in the evening, that his firm's plans for incremental housing are being made freely available online.

Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena will receive the 2016 Pritzker Architecture Prize in an award ceremony at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City starting at 7:30pm EST tonight. Watch the ceremony here live.

Tom Pritzker of the Hyatt Foundation announced today, one day after Frei Otto’s death, that the German architect is the 40th laureate of the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize.
