Japan Architecture Tour 2012

Japan is a country of great contrast with architecture that is an eclectic mix of ancient and modern, east and west. Tokyo is a dynamic metropolis where you will find some of the worlds most unique and fascinating architecture. Kyoto is a city steeped in tradition with an abundance of ancient temples, shrines and gardens scattered throughout a bustling modern city. This 10 day tour, timed to coincide with Cherry Blossom season, will not only provide an excellent snapshot of the remarkable architecture of amazing Tokyo and historic Kyoto but will also provide a memorable Japanese cultural experience.

This is not just the typical sight seeing tour, but a definitive display of Japanese architectural expression. It affords the opportunity to meet with local Japanese architects, to visit some of the remaining Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in Japan and some famous DOCOMOMO icons. A truly unique architectural & cultural experience, the tour will visit some of Tokyo's newest contemporary buildings, traditional Japanese farmhouses and famous classic buildings. We will visit art and architecture exhibitions, famous temples and gardens of Kyoto and other interesting tourist spots during Cherry Blossom season.

Enjoy not only the Architectural highlights of Japan such as Church of Light (Tadao Ando), Prada Boutique (Herzog and de Meuron), Mikimoto 2 (Toyo Ito), Dior Boutique (SANAA), National Museum of Western Art (Le Corbusier) & Olympic Gymnasium (Kenzo Tange) but also the cultural highlights such as the Japanese food, the occasional Japanese festival, a possible Japanese wedding and those hidden areas of the Tokyo metropolis that you will not find on any regular tour. This 10 day Japan Architecture Tour is conducted and guided by Architect, former Tokyo resident, Licensed Travel Agent and Japan expert, Robert Day. For more information contact [email protected]
